Jessica Myers
The Basement of the Berliner Dom

is filled with coffins,

a tomb for the royalty of Prussia.

My brain, museum numb,

is waiting for these dead relics to come alive.

I envision bone-crunched hands

that reach out to touch my face.

I think their fingers will disintegrate in the crypt air,

before they reach the smooth skin of my face.

In the museum store,

I imagine a fine dust settling on glossy history books.

I think,

Those pages can’t know the real story.
