Wings
by Stephanie Shanklin

As the sun interrupts the darkness of night

I have wings to welcome the morning from heaven

An unusual summer day

Amidst the thickness of the clouds

Fall making an early arrival

Providing a moment of reflection and truth

Renewing intentions

I have wings to soar above the skies in the dawn of a new day

to find

A spirit of restoration

I have been given wings and love as wind for inspiration

Midnight

As I lay listening to your heart beat

I realize we share the rhythm

Our hearts in sync creating a unique harmony

As time passes we become one

The pace intensifies

Our breathing now joining the melody

Our bodies so entwined

It’s difficult to identify the beginning or the end

As we race to satisfaction

Our desire to gratify one another becomes our destination

The song is no longer slow

The beat deepens

A silent distraction

Becoming too hard to ignore

Fulfillment is on the horizon

Peeking slightly through

Competing with daybreak

Not quite ready to invade such a magical embrace

As the song comes to end

We arrive at completion simultaneously
